I remember the pain of trying to use dogpile and altavista in library class in middle school to search the internet, and finding nothing, and basically being like “well fuck this, I’m going to go make a geocities website about FFVII”
I remember when Infoseek was my go-to search engine.
LYCOS. Who remembers Lycos?
the search engine i used for my schoolwork:
we had internet at home from about 1994 or so, but i NEVER used it for schoolwork are you kidding? the internet was for rp chat rooms and finding pictures of david duchovney. at school it was card catalogues all the way.
Dogpile was my search engine in middle school. All I looked up were Hanson websites.
I was just glad not to have to use MSN search anymore.
ALTAVISTA
But that wasn’t until college. They started doing terminal catalogues when I was in high school. Everyone else was scared of having to know the commands and stuff but the second I saw how much easier, and I discovered I could ILL from other schools in the state, I was like… Bam. The first thing I ever borrowed from another library was Batman Year One.
AHAHAHAH SEARCH ENGINES i didn’t learn how to use search engines for basically ever, i occasionally used altavista or askjeeves, but mostly i just followed links from the sites i already knew about. XD
we used Surfwax for a really long time- my grandparents used it up until it died a few years ago. I had switched to Google by middle school, though
